Summer Reading 2023

ALL TOGETHER NOW!

This year, the national Summer Reading theme is “All Together Now”. At the Wardsboro Library, we’ll be concentrating on SYMBIOSIS: the relationships between different organisms. We have lots of fun activities and reading incentives throughout the summer exploring the symbiotic relationships we see in both the natural and human world. How do our differences make our community stronger?

Come in to the library to pick up a Summer Reading Goodie Bag! This program is open to kids of all ages. Being read to counts!

Every Summer Reading Goodie Bag includes:

Timed Reading Record with Mini-Stickers

Reading Log

Bingo Board

Instructions:

Reading Record and Log: Each time you read or are read to for 20 minutes, you can fill in a circle with a sticker. Please record book and page #s on reading log. We will use these records to track how much everyone is reading as well as how Bingo activities were completed. We’re happy to provide more if you fill yours up. At the end of the summer, the participant who has read the most gets a grand prize!

Bingo Board: Complete as many activities as you’d like! Each square must be accomplished at a different time (reading a graphic novel at the library only counts for one square). Please check off and record how you completed these activities by either noting the book and page #s on the reading log or providing documentation of your activity (which insect identified, drawings, etc.). Reading for 20 minutes that accomplishes a Bingo activity can also be counted on the Reading Record.

Each time you complete a Bingo sheet by completing a straight line up, down, side-to-side or diagonally, bring it into the library to get a prize, mark your progress by moving your bug to the next level on the front desk, and get a new Bingo board. At the end of the summer, the participant who has completed the most Bingo sheets gets a grand prize!

Other Summer Activities

Our Community in Lego: Throughout the summer, we’re encouraging patrons of all ages to add to our model of Wardsboro made out of Lego. Whether you’re recreating a landmark building or landscape, or the theme park you wish we had; we’re doing this together! The collaborative model will remain on display in the Children’s Room through the fall.

Crafty Kids with Ms. Amy: Most Saturdays this summer 10am-12pm, Ms. Amy will lead a morning full of crafty fun. This program is open to kids of all ages. Remember to wear clothes that can get messy!

End of Summer Celebration: On Saturday, August 19th at 12:30pm, the Library will hold an ice cream party to celebrate the end of summer and the town’s readers. Prizes will be awarded for Most Reading and Most Bingo Sheets completed. We’ll also have lawn games, bubbles, and a book giveaway for all ages!

Passes: The library has free passes to State Parks, Historic Sites, and Museums. Visit our website for more information.

Kids’ Movie Matinees: At least once a month, we show a children’s movie on the big screen on a Saturday afternoon. Visit our website for dates and titles.

Stay tuned for more information and programming.

Happy Reading!
